WWE has filed for a trademark for Saturday Night Main Event in anticipation of its return to NBC.

The filing was made on 9 September and is for the term “Saturday Night’s Main Event” relating to merchandise purposes. The filing is listed as covering:

Dave Meltzer confirmed to the media last week that WWE would be announcing Saturday Night’s Main Event in the near future. WWE and NBCU have agreed to a new deal that will see four live in-ring events per year on NBC. This is part of the deal for SmackDown returning to USA Network. SmackDown is returning to the channel this Friday.

WrestleVotes reported there was “internal speculation” in WWE that the first Saturday night’s Main Event on NBC would take place this December.

Saturday Night’s Main Event was originally broadcast from 1985-1992. It returned briefly on NBC in 2005-2008. WWE has recently used the Saturday Night’s Main Event brand for its Saturday house show.
