In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Rhodes stated that he liked the term “The Renaissance Era” for this period in WWE. Rhodes is so fond of the term that he has registered a trademark. The trademark was filed on April 3, with Cody Runnels, Rhodes’ real name, listed as the owner.
The trademark is for:
Entertainment in the form of wrestling contests. Entertainment services namely wrestling exhibits and performances of a sports entertainer and professional wrestler. Entertainment services namely personal appearances of a sports entertainer and professional wrestler. Entertainment services namely televised appearances of a sports entertainer and professional wrestler.
Rhodes told Fox News Digital he liked the term “Renaissance”, because of the many ways WWE is changing.
I’ve heard that it is called the Renaissance Era and I like this perspective. As a wrestler, it’s exciting to me that we don’t have to be in the shadow of Attitude Era anymore. We’ve done more business over the last two year than they did. I’m only comparing on a black-and-white level, dollars and cents in terms of what WWE has been able do over the past two years.
I mentioned Renaissance to you because of all of the things we are trying, the new programming and the characters. They now appeal to different people. Every year has a signature thing. Hulkamania was a thing — eat your vitamin and say your prayers. There was the Attitude Period — the crash TV (Jerry Springer) type.
Now, we have a more, reach-across-the-aisle and connect-to-the-audience-type relatable superstars. No doubt, we still have the larger-than-life stars, but they are all part of this Renaissance Era.
Paul “Triple H’ Levesque” also told Complex recently that he believes WWE has entered another white-hot period like the Attitude Era.
If he wins WrestleMania night two on Sunday, Rhodes will usher in a brand new era of the Undisputed WWE Universe Championship.
Rhodes and Reigns will also clash on the first night of WrestleMania. In a tag match, Rhodes and Seth Rollins will face Reigns and The Rock.
