At Friday’s SmackDown tape, two matches were filmed to introduce a new concept.

WWE Speed was a new concept introduced at the Friday SmackDown taping.

WWE Speed matches are limited to five minutes. The winner of the match gets one point. The loser is docked a point. If the match goes to a draw within the time limit, no points are awarded. During the match, a five-minute countdown appears on the video screen.

The Speed concept seems to be a pilot for a TV show or digital media property. Commentators Corey Graves & Kevin Patrick called the matches as if it was being produced for broadcast. During the taping, a WWE Speed logo appeared on the video wall, ring apron, and ring posts.

The concept was introduced at the Green Bay taping on Friday. Axiom, from NXT, faced SmackDown’s Cedric Alexander. The other Speed match was Raw’s Bronson vs. NXT Nathan Frazer.
