Will Ospreay is going to compete for the AEW world championship at Forbidden Doors.
Ospreay, who won a casino-gauntlet match in Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, earned the right to compete against Swerve Strickland at the AEW x NJPW forbidden door pay-per view set for Sunday 30th June.
Ospreay defeated Jay White, PAC Mistico Shota Umino Claudio Castagnoli Lio Rush Orange Cassidy and Hechicero in the casino gauntlet on Wednesday. This puts him in line to challenge Swerve for his title next month.
After Wednesday’s gauntlet, Strickland stepped into the ring to face Ospreay.
Ospreay, the current AEW International Champion, defeated Roderick Strong at the Double or Nothing pay per view last Sunday to win the title.
Swerve vs. Ospreay will be the first official bout for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, which takes place on Sunday 30th June at the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York.
The event will also feature a ladder match to fill in the TNT Championship vacated when Adam Copeland was injured. Qualifying matches for this bout will begin on this week’s AEW Rampage.
