Ospreay challenged Okada to NJPW Battle in The Valley while speaking as part NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 18 interview series. Ospreay is confident he will become the first IWGP Global Heavyweight champion. Ospreay wants to defend his title against Okada at San Jose.
Ospreay will face Jon Moxley, and David Finlay at Wrestle Kingdom 18 in a three way match to determine the first IWGP Global Heavyweight champion.
Ospreay held the IWGP United States/United Kingdom Heavyweight Championship until the title was retired. Finlay destroyed the title belt during the build-up to WrestleKingdom.
Ospreay, who is a NJPW full-time talent, said that he still wants to compete in the NJPW ring. He wants to prove that in this match against Okada. Ospreay signed a multiyear deal with AEW, but will still be able wrestle for NJPW.
Ospreay’s challenge to Okada was:
I’m confident that I will win this championship. I’m so confident that I’m ready to challenge San Jose right here. I know that Okada appears on the poster. We still have so many unfinished matters. Yes, I did win the G1 and finally prove to everyone that I can beat Okada. But I’m glad to challenge you right here and now to fight Okada at San Jose.
On January 4, Okada will face Bryan Danielson in Wrestle Kingdom 18.
The NJPW contract of Okada is set to expire by the end January. He is reportedly “seriously considering” signing with a promotion besides NJPW. This would be WWE or AEW.
Battle in the Valley will be held at the San Jose Civic in San Jose on Saturday, January 13.
