Lee won the four-way match on NXT in order to be able to compete for the title.

Wes Lee won the North American title on NXT.

Lee defeated Johnny Gargano in a four way match, along with Bronson Reed and Cameron Grimes, to earn a shot at Dominik’s North American championship at NXT Deadline, on December 9. WWE Raw star Ivar jumped Reed as he climbed to the top rope. The two then brawled to the back. Lee won the match after Gargano fell down. Lee pinned Grimes using the cardiac kick.

After the match, Mysterio and Lee, who was commentating, had a staredown.

Lee returned to television earlier this month after being away for several weeks and stated that he wanted his NXT North American championship back. Mysterio agreed to the match on last week’s NXT but said Lee had to first defeat three former NXT North American champs. Mysterio told Lee that if he didn’t win, he wouldn’t get another chance at the title.
