The upcoming WWE-Saudi Arabia contract ‘enhancement” could include major PLE in todays Wrestling news
The Saudi government wants WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble to be held in their country.
According to the chairman for the Saudi Arabia General Entertainment Authority (SAGA), an “enhancement’ to the existing deal will be announced in this month. This could include a major WWE PLE heading overseas.
The new deal is expected to be announced at King & Queen of the Ring, which will take place in Jeddah from May 25th.
ESPN’s Mike Coppinger announced on X that Turki Alheikh “is looking to bring Saudi Arabia’s top WWE event, WrestMania, or the annual Royal Rumble in January.”
The news follows the announcement by the UFC and Saudi Arabia of an extension of their current deal. This will see UFC and Power Slap returning to the country for their annual Riyadh Season Festival (October through to March), in addition to sponsoring the UFC 306 debut at The Sphere, Las Vegas in September.
The UFC will debut its first event in Saudi Arabia in June.
WWE and Saudi Arabia began their controversial partnership in 2018, with two events being held there each year, with the exception of 2021 and 2020 (one event each). While Saudi Arabia is the exclusive host of shows like Crown Jewel and Greatest Royal Rumble, PLEs such as Elimination Chamber 2022 and Night of Champions 2023 have also been held.
According to previous SEC reports on the matter, WWE is expected to earn $50 million per event as part of this deal. Vince McMahon is no longer the executive chairman of TKO, having resigned after the Janel Grant lawsuit. He orchestrated the deal and helped with the UFC debut in the city.
