The Undertaker was pleased to see WWE acknowledge Sting’s retirement.
WWE congratulated Sting on his legendary career the night following his retirement match at AEW. Michael Cole thanked Sting, for all of the memories he brought to the ring during his nearly forty years. Pat McAfee, without mentioning AEW specifically, said that Sting had a “absolutely epic” match the previous night.
Undertaker, Sting and their respective promotions helped define the WWF vs. WCW Monday Night War. Undertaker praised Sting’s pro wrestling career on his Six Feet Under Podcast.
Undertaker said, “What a run man!” “Like, I understand runs. What a run.”
Undertaker stated that even though WWE and AEW compete with each other, WWE should acknowledge Sting’s legacy.
There are some people in the industry. We’re in competition, yes. I get it. But Sting’s impact is much greater than AEW, or anything else. He deserved it. I’m glad that the company acknowledged it because it was only right.
Fans have been waiting for this match for decades. Undertaker claimed that Vince McMahon, for whatever reasons, didn’t want the match to happen when they were both in WWE in 2015. Sting lost to Triple H instead at that year’s WrestleMania.
Undertaker believes the match between Sting and him in 2015 would have been great, but it wouldn’t have lived up to expectations because they were so late into their careers.
