At UFC 306, two new champions were crowned.
Merab Dvalishvili defeated bantamweight Sean O’Malley at Saturday’s main event at The Sphere, Las Vegas. O’Malley had no answer to Dvalishvili’s offensive. O’Malley made a comeback at the end of the 5th round, but it wasn’t enough. The judges awarded the bout Dvalishvili with scores of 49-46. 48-47. and 48-47.
O’Malley held the title for 393 days, after defeating Aljamain sterling at UFC 292.
Valentia Shchenko won the co-main fight against Alexa Grasso by a unanimous decision of 50-45. Shevchenko dominated the match by taking Grosso down, with the majority of the match being played on the floor.
This was the third fight between the two. Grasso won the title in March 2023 after defeating Schevchenko. In a rematch in September last year, the match ended in a split draw. Grosso had not faced any other title challengers prior to Saturday’s fight.
