Tony Khan wants Ricky Starks to be back in AEW.
Khan, when asked about Starks’ recent absence from the promotion in an interview with CBS Sports praised Starks’ role in Sting’s retirement. This included wrestling Sting’s final televised Match on the Dynamite episode of February 7, which was a part of Sting’s retirement. Starks, Big Bill and Sting were given the tag titles by Starks and Big Bill on the show.
Khan said, “I like Ricky Starks very much.” “The last time he was here, he was in the World Tag Team Championship tournament. He and Big Bill made a great team. They were the World Tag Team Champions. They had a great career, which culminated in their last televised fight of Sting’s legendary career. I thought it was a big thing that Ricky & Bill’s run culminated in an important match.”
Starks hasn’t wrestled in AEW since the match between Bill and Top Flight at the March 30 Collision, which was called off early because Starks looked injured after a Pele Kick from Darius Martin. Starks posted on Instagram the next day that he was “all right” and just taking precautions.
Khan continued, “We talk about the five years of AEW and to me, the most special part was the three-year run that Sting had. I thought we gave him the greatest send-off in wrestling history, and Ricky played a big part in that.”
Starks told WhatCulture later that he had “no idea” why he hadn’t appeared on TV since the match on March 30, but he didn’t elaborate.
“I think Ricky Starks’ is incredible. I’d love for him to be involved and back at AEW at any time. He’s been an integral part of our work for four of the last five years,” Khan said.
Starks was injured in a match with Top Flight. Starks lost a match that they were supposed win after being shaken. Big Bill was supposed to turn on Starks at one point and make him a babyface, but it never happened.
