The AEW Tag team titles are now vacant.
Tony Khan announced at the AEW Revolution Media scrum on Sunday, that a tournament would be held in this month to determine the new AEW Tag Team Champions. Khan said that the tournament would begin in March but did not give a specific start date.
The titles will be vacated because of Sting’s retirement at Revolution, in which he and Darby allin successfully retained their titles against The Young Bucks during a tornado match. Allin injured his back when he fell through glass after taking a big dive off a ladder. Despite this, he was already announced for a singles match at AEW’s Big Business on 13 March where he will be facing Jay White.
Sting & Allin won the titles for 25 consecutive days, beating Rick Starks & Big Bill in the Dynamite 7th February edition. After they won the titles they were attacked with baseball bats by The Young Bucks, which led to the match at AEW Revoution.
