The CW Network’s option to acquire broadcast rights for WWE NXT over Raw or SmackDown was more realistic.

WWE announced that in November 2023, it had signed a five-year agreement to bring NXT over to The CW. The deal starts in October when NXT moves from USA Network. Today, it has been confirmed that NXT will continue to air on Tuesday nights, live on The CW from 8-10 p.m. Eastern Time.

Variety published an article on Thursday featuring CW executives Brad Schwartz and Dennis Miller discussing the network’s schedule for fall. Miller, president of The CW said that Raw and SmackDown weren’t within The CW budget. However, NXT fit with the network’s focus on sports properties and its increased budget.

We knew Raw and SmackDown would be a bit out of our budget. If you look at other sports, there are many where the next tier moves into the first tier, whether it is the Xfinity races that lead into the Cup or NXT that leads into Raw and SmackDown. It just seemed to fit. We went back and forward over a period of two months and finally got the deal done.

NXT is currently airing on USA Network and will remain on the channel until October, when it will move to The CW.

Raw and SmackDown will also be moving to new TV homes as part of their next TV deal. Raw will start airing on Netflix by January 2025. SmackDown returns to USA Network in September.
