The tournament will start on the next episode of Collision, it was announced. The titles have been vacant ever since AEW Revolution when Sting & Darby Allein vacated them following Sting’s retirement. No teams or brackets have been revealed.
FTR came out at Collision to express their interest in participating in the tournament and to promise to win the AEW Tag Team title for a third consecutive time if given the chance. They were interrupted by Captain. Shawn Dean and Carlie Beta, The Infantry. They shook FTR’s hand, but said they wanted to give tag team tournament “revival”, in reference to FTR’s WWE title. Dax Harwood replied by saying that The Revival is dead and if The Infantry was encountered during the tournament they would also be dead.
Sting and Darby Allin successfully defend the titles at Revolution by defeating The Young Bucks. They won the titles just before Sting retired by defeating Ricky Starks & Big Bill in the February 7th edition of AEW’s Dynamite.
