Swerve Strickland praised AEW President Tony Khan in a recently conducted interview.
Strickland recently told Sports Illustrated that Khan has given Khan TV time with top talents and that this is the biggest difference between his runs as WWE and AEW.
Strickland said, “TV time is an investment.” “Tony Khan has given me that. He gave me top talent. Top tag team talent. Top managerial talent. Rick Ross. Rick Ross. Tony Khan gave me what everyone wants. You feel crushed when you don’t receive that. Tony would give me a minute of airtime in a promotional video if I asked. It means more than anyone will ever realize.”
Strickland called his match against Will Ospreay, the main event in AEW x NJPW’s Forbidden Doors, “a perfect whirlwind.”
Strickland said, “I am proud of the story that we told during that match.” “It was an amazing whirlwind.” It was Will’s very first pay-per view main event in AEW. Fans were eagerly awaiting it and didn’t know the outcome. Swerve was it? Will continue his hot streak to win the title or was it Swerve’s time? It’s a match that we’ve been waiting for and the timing was perfect.”
Strickland said in the interview that being unique and true to himself has helped him standout.
Strickland said, “I pay attention to the things that other people do, but I don’t focus on them.” “My focus is to be as unique and true as possible. I have to be myself. It’s this that allows me to be different. You never know what is going to happen next. My title reign is a result of this. It also feels very real.
This feels like an alternative and that was the point of the original. This is what it is.”
Strickland is now on his way to the main event at AEW All In, which will take place at Wembley Stadium. He will face the winner of the Owen Hart Foundation men’s tournament. Strickland hopes that his headlining of the show will be meaningful to others.
Strickland said, “There haven’t really been many African Americans who have headlined pay-per views like this.” “That’s All Elite Wrestling’s biggest stage yet.” It means a great deal to me and I hope that it means a great deal to many other people.
