Swerve Strickland recently spoke with TMZ about his Texas Death Match against Hangman Page at AEW full gear.

Former WWE Superstar Mojo Raley asked Strickland about the moment during the match when Page let blood from Strickland’s head drip in his mouth.

“That’s why we’re having this conversation.” Strickland replied that if you’re going to go all-out in a match such as that, you need to release all the handcuffs and chains. “Understand there will be criticism because we’re going to shake up the foundation a bit,” Strickland responded.

He said that it is becoming more difficult for a match in 2023 to stand out.

“I felt like that was a moment where it was like ‘that was theatre, that was cinematic.’ Just like, ‘Oh, my god, you’ve got to go out of the way to see it because I can’t believe it.

“We push the boundaries, that’s how AEW was founded,” he said. “Pushing boundaries” means doing things that others are not able or unwilling to do.

Strickland said that his match with Full Gear had made him one of top performers in the industry.

“I feel that I catapulted my self as one of top guys in the business. I’ve said it before, and it was a big deal earlier this year, but I feel like I can be the First African American AEW World Champion. I have no problem saying that I am in a league all my own.
