Sting on Revolution’s retirement match: AEW is the team I want to elevate in todays Wrestling news
Sting also spoke about how much he appreciated the support of wrestling fans.
Sting wants to give fans one final classic match at AEW Revoluton.
Sting, 64, will wrestle his last match ever at Revolution this Sunday. He will team up with Darby Allin to face The Young Bucks for the AEW tag team titles in a tornado match.
Sting revealed his goals for this match in an interview with Sports Illustrated, just days before he retired. Sting wants to entertain fans and elevate AEW.
I want people entertained. I want AEW to be elevated.
I didn’t want to let wrestling pass me by. This is why I wrestled in the way I did. This Sunday, I will wrestle in a way that people will want to save the video.
Sting reflected upon how much his Hall of Fame career has been impacted by the support of pro wrestling fans.
It makes my lip tremble. I love wrestling fans. The Little Stingers have grown up. They are adults now. We’ve all grown up together. We’ve all grown together.
The relationship with fans is what takes this to another level. I can’t count the number of conversations I’ve heard where someone said that their only relationship with their father was through watching Sting on WCW. Or the people who told me they were bullied at school, but watched Sting because he made them strong. Can you believe it? I still can’t believe it. The feeling I get from wrestling fans is as good as anything else I can give them. It’s amazing. It’s humbling to hear that I’ve touched someone’s life.
Since Sting’s AEW debut in 2020, he has been paired with Allin. Sting told Sports Illustrated he has learned a lot from Allin over the course of their friendship. Sting believes he wouldn’t have been as successful in AEW if Allin hadn’t been there.
Darby is a good friend. It’s been a pleasure to watch him become this polished star. I’m glad my last hurrah with him was. I didn’t really teach him much about wrestling, other than a little psychology. I taught him to be more minimalistic. I taught him to lose gracefully. Overall, he has a good grasp of wrestling. I’ve learned a lot from him. I wouldn’t be this successful without him.
Sting & Allin took the AEW tag team titles from Rick Starks & Big Bill in early October. This is the first title Sting has held since he won the TNA World Championship in 2011.
On Sunday, March 3, the Greensboro Coliseum is hosting a revolution. The PPV main event begins at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
