Shota Umino returns to action.
NJPW released a video Monday on social media confirming that Shota umino will return for the G1 Climax tournament, which begins this weekend. He was out of action from June due to back and hip injuries sustained in a match with Rocky Romero on AEW’s Rampage last month.
In the video, Umino announced that he would be returning to the ring at the G1 Climax. “Many people have supported me over the last month. And I gave everything I had to rehabbing and treating myself in order to be in the G1.”
He said he didn’t take this decision lightly and that he will use his determination to win the next tournament.
“I will win the G1 and then stand at the Tokyo Dome,” he concluded.
Umino will face Callum Newman on the opening day of July 20. The winner of the August 18 crowning will receive a contract to compete for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title at WrestleKingdom 19 on January 4th.
