The announcement was made on Saturday at UFC 301.
The UFC Hall of Fame has a new name.
Mauricio “Shogun Rua” will be inducted as a Pioneer Wing during the 2024 UFC Hall of Fame Ceremony this summer. The news was revealed at Saturday’s UFC 301, which took place in Rio de Janeiro.
In a press statement, UFC President & CEO Dana White said that Shogun Rua was one of the greatest Brazilian combat athletes in history. “Shogun Rua had an incredible run both in PRIDE and UFC and he was fearless within the Octagon. His fights with Mark Coleman, Chuck Liddell and Lyoto Machida are some of the most memorable in UFC history, and helped to put Brazilian MMA on a global stage. It will be a great honor to induct him into UFC Hall of Fame during International Fight Week this summer.
Rua joins Wanderlei, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Frankie Edgar as inductees for the 2024 class. The first Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen fight will also be inducted, and Beneil Dariush is set to receive the Forrest Griffin Community Award in recognition of his work in Haiti building orphanages.
The 2024 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 27, at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, as part of International Fight Week.
