Shelton Benjamin provided an update about his free agency during an appearance on Insight With Chris Van Vliet.
Benjamin, 49, still believes he has much to offer as an athlete after his release from WWE. Benjamin revealed that he spoke briefly with AEW in free agency. Benjamin is still open to the possibility of a future conversation with AEW, even though it hasn’t yet produced anything. Benjamin said that he’s not spoken to TNA Wrestling, but knows MLW reached out to him.
“I have tons of fuel left in my tank. It’s just a question of whether anyone wants to use them. Like I said, WWE will always be synonymous with me. Benjamin said, “I’m open to being anywhere.”
“I had a short conversation with AEW. This hasn’t yielded any results yet, but I am still open. TNA I have not spoken to yet. I’m willing to work with TNA. I haven’t spoken to them. I know MLW reached out. You know, I was given options. “I just haven’t been able to find something that I am satisfied with.”
Benjamin was released from WWE during a round that the company underwent after being officially acquired by Endeavor in December last year. Benjamin told Van Vliet he would return to WWE if the company made him a good offer.
Van Vliet asked Benjamin whether there had ever been any discussion about Benjamin becoming a producer, or working behind-the-scenes when he worked with WWE.
“There was some talk about me becoming a trainer in the future.” Benjamin replied, “I don’t believe that door has closed. I just haven’t pursued it.”
Benjamin loves to train people and teach, but there are still some things he would like to achieve as a wrestler.
I love teaching. I love to teach. “I still think selfishly at this point,” Benjamin said. “I think I have some more things I would like to do and accomplish,” Benjamin said. While I am definitely interested, I will not say that it is my only motivation. I have to set aside my own ambitions in order to be able to perform this job correctly. “At least for today, I am not ready to stop thinking a little selfishly.”
