Shelton Benjamin has announced his first match since being released from WWE in September last year.
Prestige Wrestling announced on Thursday that Benjamin will face TNA Wrestling Josh Alexander at their Alive or Just Breathing show in Los Angeles, on Thursday, May 16th. The Vermont Hollywood will host the independent event. This venue has hosted NJPW Strong events before.
Benjamin signed a development deal with WWE in 2000. He then reported to Ohio Valley Wrestling, where he formed a tag team with Brock Lesnar, his former college wrestler teammate from the University of Minnesota.
Benjamin and Charlie Haas, who were called up to WWE’s main lineup in 2002, formed The World’s Greatest Tag Team with Kurt Angle’s Team Angle as part of an agreement.
Benjamin held the WWE Intercontinental Championship three times, the United States Championship as a singles contestant on his first run and two Raw Tag Team Titles with Haas until he was released in 2010.
Benjamin, who had previously worked with NJPW and ROH as well as on the independent circuit, returned to WWE in 2017. He spent six years with Chad Gable before joining The Hurt Business, where he won the Raw Tag Team title once again with Cedric.
Benjamin’s final WWE match was on the episode of Main Event on September 14, 2023. He teamed up with Alexander to lose against The Viking Raiders, in a bout that was taped on September 11, 2023. Benjamin’s WWE release was announced by September 21, 2023.
