Shane McMahon releases statement on a 'great' meeting Tony Khan with AEW in todays Wrestling news

It is yet to be seen if Shane McMahon’s move to AEW becomes a reality. However, it appears that his meeting with Tony Khan went well.

WrestleTalk reported on Wednesday, that Khan and McMahon had met earlier in the week to “discuss possible moving forward.” WrestleTalk also obtained a picture of Khan and McMahon taken during the meeting. The meeting took place in a private room at the Arlington airport.

McMahon confirmed in a statement to Bully Ray, which was read out on Busted Open After Dark that he met Khan. McMahon stated that they discussed many things but mainly their love for pro wrestling and “rewards” and “challenges” of working with families. Below is the full statement.

Tony and I met through a mutual acquaintance and had a wonderful meeting. We discussed many things but mainly our shared love of the business, and the rewards and challenges that come with working with family. I congratulated him for the five-year anniversary and look forward to seeing how he develops the business going forward.

After Jim Ross and Conrad Thompson discussed this idea on their podcast Grilling JR, rumors that McMahon might appear for AEW were a hot topic online. Khan said in June that he was a big fan of McMahon as a wrestler and executive, even though he hadn’t met him at the time. Khan said Shane was always welcome in AEW.

McMahon does not have a current role in WWE. He hasn’t appeared for the company since 2023, when he tore his quadriceps at WrestleMania.
