Sabu explains no-showing Indie HOF induction: ‘I changed my mind’ in todays Wrestling news
The induction ceremony was held in Philadelphia on Sunday.
Sabu’s absence from the 2024 Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame Ceremony was due to a simple reason: he had changed his mind
.
Sunday, the ECW icon was to be inducted into Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame. Sabu, despite being at the hotel where the event was held, did not attend. Brett Lauderdale, the GCW promoter, tweeted that Sabu had decided to keep the deposit and not show up for the booking.
Sabu was at WrestleCon when the induction ceremony took place. Both events were held in downtown Philadelphia at the Sheraton Hotel.
In a post on social media posted Wednesday night, Sabu explained why he did not attend the ceremony. “I changed my mind.”
Lauderdale responded by saying that he had no hard feelings towards Sabu.
“Just to be clear, I have no hard feeling towards Sabu. I still have nothing but respect for his persona and performance,” Lauderdale wrote. “The sacrifices that he made changed (pardon the pun), and many of my fondest memories as a music fan are centered on his work.”
The Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame was created by GCW magazine and Orange Crush. The ceremony is held annually during WrestleMania Weekend.
The class of 2024 also included The Briscoes, (Jay & Mark Briscoe), Trent Acid and Steve Corino. Also in the class were Mercedes Martinez, Eddie Gilbert and Kevin “Whack Packer”, an indie superfan.
