Rousey will adapt her memoirs for Netflix.

Former WWE and UFC star Ronda Roussey is turning her story into a Netflix film.

Rousey’s agreement to adapt her memoirs to a Netflix biopic was first reported by Deadline Thursday. Rousey will be making her debut in the film as a screenwriter, but she won’t be acting.

Rousey released her second memoir, “Our Fight”, in April. The movie will also cover her 2015 memoir, “My Fight/Your Fight.” Both books were written jointly by Rousey’s sister Maria Burns Ortiz and Rousey.

According to Deadline Rousey worked hard to ensure that she was the writer of this film. Rousey was an intern at the William Morris Endeavor agency’s story department as she prepared to pen the script.

Deadline reports that when Rousey’s agents took the screenplay to market, they tore the first page off so studios wouldn’t know who wrote it or have any preconceived biases.

After months of coverage, [Rousey] had been challenged by her longtime WME agents who were with her before the UFC to write a script about her life. She completed the task all by herself in seven days, and her agents couldn’t believe that the script was written by a first-time writer. The script was quickly taken to market, with Chernin working fast to secure a meeting for them to come on as producers. After that one sit-down, they attached themselves as producers.

Insiders claim that Netflix executives knew they had something special when they tore the front page off the script before the meeting. This allowed them to go into the meeting without any preconceived bias. They only learned who wrote the script after they finished the script. After reading the script, the execs immediately contacted the writer to find out who it was. They also made an offer as soon as they found out that Rousey was the author.

Paramount owned the rights to adapt Rousey’s first memoir. However, they lapsed “after a handful of regime shifts at the studio.”

Her new memoir covers Rousey’s WWE Career. The book criticizes Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard. John Laurinaitis is also mentioned. Rousey is not optimistic that she will return to WWE once McMahon, Laurinaitis and Prichard are gone. She replied last month when Good Morning America questioned her about possibly returning to WWE:

I doubt it unless there is a major change in the way things are run.

Rousey has not been with WWE since August 2023.
