In a new interview, Ronda spoke with Chris Van Vliet about her second WWE career and her issues regarding Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard.
Rousey is promoting the upcoming graphic novel, “Expecting The Unexpected.” She says that, even though she didn’t love her second stint with WWE, she loves pro wrestling. She also said that she heard that the company has improved since the Paul “Triple H Levesque” era began.
“I love pro wrestling. My last run was not the best. It was the dying throes the Vince McMahon Era and they made it so unnecessary stressful. I wish I could show up at the venue knowing what the match was and having it memorized,” Rousey stated.
“I’ve been told it’s much better. But no, that was not my experience. My experience was similar to if I had shown up at Saturday Night Live, and no one wrote the show yet. It was as if I hadn’t filmed and practiced it all week. It was like you showed up, and you had no idea what the script would be until the last second. Even though we had a blast while we were there, the anxiety of having to get to the finish made it so unfun. It’s a gross film that has been made about the incredible experience.
“I hear that everyone is doing so much better, and I am happy for them. It’s also because I have babies and I can’t take them on the road. I did it briefly with one child, but I can’t do it with two. It was hard for my husband to not be with us all the time. “I just don’t believe I can ask them to give up that anymore.”
Rousey also spoke of her match against Shayna Basszler at SummerSlam in 2023, and how it was booked.
“I think the people would have loved if we had played it at Bloodsport or someplace else. But I don’t think it was for the crowd. It was all MMA Easter eggs and all these moments in MMA’s history that we are big geeks for, that we were recreating in the match. And it wasn’t inviting any audience involvement or anything like that. It was like, I don’t even know if you have read my book but it was nice to f*ck you out on the way. You’re going to sit here and watch the match that we wanted from the beginning. I don’t give a damn what you think. Go get some popcorn. We loved it. We had a wonderful time. From the very beginning, I wanted to wrestle with Shayna, and then be able put her over, and leave. They wouldn’t have let us leave unless I had threatened to leave at the beginning of the year when they told that I would not be able fight Becky at WrestleMania. That was why I returned. I said, “Fine, I’m going to tag with Shayna and she’s going to turn on me and then I’m leaving, or I’m going f*cking go right now.” We were only able to do this because they wouldn’t allow us to do anything Four Horsewoman related. They wouldn’t allow me and Shayna to do anything together because Vince was convinced no one knew we were friends.”
When asked why there wasn’t a match between Rousey and Becky Lynch, Rousey replied: “Because Vince was an 80-year old asshole.”
When asked if there had been no love lost, Rousey replied, “No. Vince McMahon can suck a dick, John Laurinaitis and Bruce Prichard.”
When asked about Levesque or Stephanie McMahon Rousey replied: “They’re fantastic, love them.”
“I was talking with (Stephanie), about (kids). We just started trying because I was so excited to have a baby. We had already suffered two miscarriages and I was going to begin IVF. She removed the necklace from her neck. It was a locket that had pictures of her daughters in it. She said, “This has my babies in there.” I want you to put in your babies. I never removed her babies. I put my baby at the top and I will have to add more pictures.”
When asked if Rousey was done with wrestling, Rousey responded:
“Full-time yeah” I might come back to have some fun. “But I can’t leave home and be on the road that way.”
Rousey also addressed WrestleMania’s main event finish:
“I didn’t believe my shoulders were flat on ground, so I tried to scoot in order to get my shoulders to flatten because it’s f*cking noisy I can’t even hear myself think. It’s the difference between the match that was thrown together on the night before, and the debut match which had been put together with lots of support, practice and opinions. Why did we spend a year promoting and building up this match and then it was just thrown together last minute? We were still figuring out the details when we arrived at the venue. That’s what a shortage of practice and rehearsal can do.”
Rousey said she wanted to use WrestleMania’s finish to set up a match with Lynch, but it never happened.
“I wanted to use it.” I wanted to use it as a way to lead into the next game. We bring it up and say that you never got me. This is bullsh*t. All the referees were in your pocket. Put that into the next. You know, the singles that everyone wanted between me and Becky got taken away.”
