Holland will step down ‘indefinitely,’ following an angle in Tuesday’s NXT.
After an angle on Tuesday night’s NXT, Ridge Holland has “stepped away” from WWE NXT.
The unique storyline of Holland having a crisis of confidence after injuring Big E in real life and inflicting a kayfabe on Ilja Dragunov, in a similar manner, culminated in Tuesday’s WWE NXT Episode with Holland announcing his indefinite departure from the ring.
Holland’s WWE.com page has been moved into the alumni section in order to sell the retirement angle.
Big E broke his neck after a belly-to-belly overhead throw on the floor during a match against Holland on SmackDown on March 11, 2022.
Holland continued to be with The Brawling Brutes for an additional year or so after the incident. He then appeared to leave the Brutes group in November last year. He returned to NXT in December last year for a match against Dragunov, where the injury occurred.
In recent weeks, Holland and Shawn Spears have been feuding. Spears laid Holland out with a chairshot in his NXT comeback, then defeated Holland in a last-week’s episode.
Holland posted a teaser video on Tuesday that hinted at the retirement angle of this week’s episode.
It’s pretty evident that my efforts to prove myself and redeem me are not going as I hoped. The result against Shawn Spears last week is proof of that. I have to be honest with my self. I’m going to do what everyone else wants me to.
