Ric Flair reveals the pitch he rejected for Sting's AEW Retirement Match in todays Wrestling news

Ric Flair wished to betray Sting before Sting ended the career of his in-ring career.

During a Busted Open Radio appearance on Monday, Flair revealed an idea he came up with for Sting’s final match at AEW. He wanted it to go the same way as it did, except that he would have been the heel at the end and Sting would have laid him out. Flair thinks the crowd would have loved this match, and he believes it would have given Flair a direction to take as a heel at AEW following Revolution.

“I wanted them to have the same match but at the end I just wanted you to keep me outside the whole time. “At the end, when Sting was standing there, and those guys were gone, I jumped on Sting – boom, boom boom, one big movement to me, put the Scorpion on my back, and we went off like we started 31 year ago,” Flair explained. “You know what you mean? It would have blown off the roof of the place. It would have made me a scumbag so I could go somewhere else, because it is hard to get people mad at me.”

Sting capped off his career in Greensboro, North Carolina during the Revolution event that took place this March. Sting & Darby allin defeated The Young Bucks in order to retain the AEW Tag Team Titles. They then vacated their belts following the win.

A double superkick by The Young Bucks laid Flair out during the Revolution match. He told Busted Open Radio he believes that many fans were disappointed he didn’t go against Sting.

Flair said that when he pitched the idea, people looked at him like he had seven different things. “I don’t believe Tony [Khan] was aware that I was taking blood thinners. I’ve done all this stuff for years. I’ve had this blood clot for over two years. Tony, even if he only asked me once, or ten times, he told me to not cut myself. ‘”

Flair laughed and said that he hadn’t heard from AEW after Revolution.

On Busted Open Radio Flair praised Revolution for being a great show, and said Will Ospreay’s match with Konosuke Takashita was one of his favorite matches in a very long time. He also had nice words for MJF and The Young Bucks.
