After Friday’s Death Before Dishonor, Lee Moriarty & Red Velvet are able to call themselves ROH Champions for the first time.
Moriarty was awarded the Pure title for pinning Wheeler Yuta using the ropes. This was legal as both men had used up their rope breaks according to Pure rules. Yuta gave the title to Moriarty himself after the match.
Moriarty earned his shot by bringing Yuta to an impromptu ten-minute draw during a Proving Ground match in June. Yuta’s victory over Moriarty, in a November bout in 2023, has given them a 1-1-1 record against each other.
Yuta’s reign as the third Pure title holder ended today after 245 days. This was due to his concussion that kept him out of action. He defended it three times after winning in November. This was his first defense since then.
In the next match, Velvet defeated Billie Starkz, the inaugural ROH Women’s TV champion to become the second ever titleholder.
Starkz used an old trick to close the show. She pretended to be hurt, just as she did against Queen Aminata at the TV title finals. She then sprung and hit Velvet in the face with an enziguri, and began mugging at the crowd. Velvet then faked an injury to throw Starkz, allowing Velvet the opportunity to hit Mama’s recipe to win.
Velvet has won four consecutive matches against Starkz, both in AEW and ROH. Starkz has never defended his title since he won it at April’s Supercard of Honor.
