Raquel Rodriguez competed in the WWE Elimination Chamber despite her mast cell activation (MCAS) flare-up.
Rodriguez was among the participants of the women’s Elimination Chamber Match in Australia on Saturday. Becky Lynch will now challenge Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania for the Women’s World Championship.
In an Instagram post, Rodriguez revealed her MCAS flared on the flight from Sydney to Perth. Rodriguez’s face became swollen, pink and a little red. She was still able compete as planned. Rodriguez expressed her gratitude to WWE’s medical staff. She also thanked family and friends who checked on her.
If you told me on the long flight from Perth to Australia that it would blow up my face and turn me the color of my pink satin pillowcase (it might have been my makeup on Monday as well) I still would have jumped on the flight! My trip may not have gone as planned, but I am still learning about my new body. It’s a big part of my job as a female wrestler for WWE to get to sit in the makeup chair and work with our amazing makeup crew, who I love. It’s just part of being a woman. It’s all part of being a girl. I’m proud that I did it Alicia Keys-style at the end of the evening. Even if the trip didn’t turn out as planned, I am grateful to have been in Elimination chamber in Perth Australia along with 5 other talented ladies! And I got to hug a koala bear so it was a win for me thank you so much to the lovely Vanessa of @lymphaticmassageperth for seeing me last minute 3 times to help me feel my best for the chamber. Your kindness, grace and knowledge were a blessing
Thank you @westozwildlife, for the animal love and hugs! Thank you to the entire WWE Medical Team! I am so grateful to my family and friends for their late and early phone call, prayers, and constant checking on me los amigo! On to the long flight home
Rodriguez was out of action due to MCAS since December. Rodriguez won the Raw battle royal to become the last participant to qualify for women’s Elimination Chamber.
Rodriguez said that after her return, she finally had some answers as to what caused MCAS. However, it will be a long time before she can fully control the condition.
MCAS is a condition in which mast cells release excessive amounts of chemicals into the body. This can cause allergy symptoms as well as a variety of other symptoms.
Six wrestlers took part in the women’s Elimination Chamber match: Liv Morgan (Naomi), Bianca Belair (Lynch), Bianca Belair (Bianca), Naomi and Tiffany Stratton.
