QT Marshall says he met WWE earlier this year, and he felt “rubbed wrong” by the experience.
Marshall revealed in an interview with Sports Illustrated that he was aware from the moment he walked into his WWE meeting, that this was not where he wanted be.
Marshall said that he had a conversation with someone who no longer works at WWE. “I was rubbed the wrong side during the conversation. It was like ‘Hey yeah, oh yes, that’s awesome. All right. I said, “All right, we will stay in touch.” It was as if I wasn’t staying in touch.”
Marshall’s return as an executive at AEW was announced on 14 February 2024.
Marshall’s comments on The Nightmare Factory and WWE:
“Cody spoke to me about possibly signing over the intellectual property and stuff. He said he was working on something related to WWE, but he was sworn to secrecy, and I didn’t want to find out.”
“When Cody explained to me what was going on, he did a very smart thing by not including me in the press release. He didn’t wish to cause any drama for me. I told Tony that Cody had his own camps. It’s always worked out that way when I was a coach, but these are Cody’s camps. All of these are his children. They’re all from scratch. I’ve trained most people in a Billy Gunn night class. Before Billy, I was the only one who trained people. Cody prefers the newer girls and guys, while I prefer the older ones. It was strange at first for him to go to WWE.
“I don’t know what is going on, because I know that the WWE is involved.” I didn’t investigate it as much. I want to investigate it because every student I’ve ever had has messaged me, but I do not know the answer. So I don’t really know what the whole deal is. “I read the press release too.”
“But I knew when I spoke with Cody that you were going to do your own thing. Maybe I could start a night course in that building if the building is sold, or if the building is lost. I’m not going to be a big part of this because of AEW, and the conflict of interests. He says, “Yeah, that’s a given, but it stinks because you’re 50 percent of Nightmare Factory. You are more than 50% of the Nightmare Factory because of your coaching. But at the end, you know, if there’s any difficulty at work. That’s the most important thing.
“I didn’t know what was happening.” I can understand Cody’s perspective. He’s sworn to secrecy because, who knows, maybe it’s so cool that they’re doing it that we would have liked to jump on it. I don’t really know. Cody and me, we have a more friend-like relationship than a professional one at this point.”
Marshall wrestled in the final Nightmare Factory Showcase on October 20, 2024. He won a match with Joey Z, Raegan Teal, and Kevin Cox, teamed up with Joey Z. Three days later he lost to Manny Lemons in a dark match with AEW.
Marshall will open The Nightmare Factory with Cody Rhodes in 2020. The school was recently one of five schools designated as an official member in the new WWE ID program. Marshall claims he didn’t know about WWE’s agreement with the school and decided to take a break from coaching months ago.
