The independent promotions are combining to create a global appearance.

Independent wrestling promotions PROGRESS Wrestling & Defy Wrestling have joined forces.

The two promotions announced their merger in a joint press release issued on Friday. PROGRESS is based in London, while Defy has its headquarters in Seattle, United States.

The press release stated that “the merger will create a truly international presence for both organisations, with mutual benefits for both. It will also aid further expansion plans which will offer something exciting for wrestling fans all over the world.”

The announcement was made ahead of Defy’s 7th anniversary show, which will take place tonight (9 February). PROGRESS was founded in 2012 and sold to Lee McAteer & MartynBest at the end 2021.

The Defy content is now available on Demand PROGRESS Plus, PROGRESS’ streaming service.

Best made a statement in the Friday press release.

We are delighted that Jim [Perry] & Matt Farmer have joined us at PROGRESS. This is a significant step in our plans to expand international collaborations. We had a strong partnership with WWE and are developing a relationship with the Japanese promotion Pro Wrestling NOAH. I am confident that our combined fans will be excited to see what happens with DEFY joining.

We are planning a second joint show for later this year in London. We will continue our closeness with each other in Philadelphia, where we will both be performing at The Collective just before WrestleMania. DEFY, our content and streaming platform, will soon be able to stream DEMAND PROGRESS Plus, and we are working on some exciting ideas for highlighting the great wrestling talent that we both work with.

Jim Perry, Defy’s Jim Perry, said:

I’ve always been a fan of PROGRESS and they inspired me to create DEFY. We’ve known each other for many years and have worked on numerous collaborations including our successful double show in London last august. I’m excited about our formal coming together and I think the fans will be able to expect some really cool ideas.
