Oklahoma Athletic Commission considers rule change for transgender wrestling in todays Wrestling news
The Oklahoma State Athletic Commission has been considering a rule that would allow transgender professional wrestlers to perform within the state.
The commission warned AEW previously that matches involving a “person of the heterogametic sex” born with XY chromosomes competing against someone of “the homosexual sex” with XX chromosomes are not allowed in the state. The warning was issued after the commission was notified about a match in December between transgender wrestler Nyla rose and cis-gendered wrestler Alejandralion, when AEW operated the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
Wrestlenomics obtained emails through a public request that showed the commission notified AEW’s SVP Chris Harrington that they believed the rule above was violated in January. In an email, OSAC administrator Jim Miller stated that the commission was considering a rule change.
“For your information, the Commission is currently discussing a possible change to this rule. If the Commission decides that the rule needs to be changed, it will need to go through a legislative process of rule-making. This would not take effect until July 2024,” Miller said.
Miller told AEW, too, that if the two agreed to not violate the state rule again, the matter would be closed with his email.
“The correction for this violation is that you, the promoter, do not allow a man to wrestle a woman at any future events promoted by the State of Oklahoma. If you’re willing to correct this violation, this email will be all that is sent. We can accommodate your request to present your case at an official hearing before the Commission,” he wrote.
According to Wrestlenomics’ report, Alissa Hayrrington, AEW’s Associate General Counsel replied to the email stating that AEW had agreed to correct the violation.

When Tony Khan was questioned about the OSAC warning in April, Tony Khan said that he had just learned about it and did not believe his company had done anything wrong. He said AEW supported and stood by Rose.
AEW presented another event in Oklahoma during February. It held a Dynamite & Rampage taping on February 23, in Tulsa. Rose did not appear on the show.
