New NEVER Openweight six-man tag team champions have been crowned.
Hiroshi Takahashi, Toru Yano, and Boltin Oleg won the Wrestling World 2024 one-night tournament in New Taipei City (Taiwan) on Sunday.
Tanahashi and Yano defeated Great-O Khan, Callum Newman and Francesco Akira before defeating House of Torture’s SHO, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL in the finals. The HOT team defeated BUSHI and Shingo Takagi in the semifinals on the show.
The NEVER Six Man Tag Team Championships have been vacant since January. Kazuchika Okada vacated them on behalf of his team Tanahashi, Tomohiro and Ishii following his final match at Korakuen Hall in NJPW as a roster member.
DOUKI also earned a shot against IWGP Junior Heavyweight champion SHO on today’s show by defeating Kosei Fujita. In recent months, the belt has been stolen from the champion by upcoming contenders. SHO attempted to steal DOUKI’s belt back after today’s match, but was unsuccessful.
Hirooki GOTO and YOSHI HASHI, both from Bishamon, successfully defended the IWGP Tag Team Championships in Taiwan on Sunday. They defeated Yuya uemura and SANADA from Just 5 Guys.
The Asia Pacific Federation of Wrestling kicked off its inaugural event today. The federation, which was formed to “broaden professional wrestling across Asia and around the world”, features promotions from Japan. Singapore, Thailand. China and Taiwan.
