NJPW crowns New Japan Cup winner 2024 in todays Wrestling news
The main event for Sakura Genesis has now been officially announced.
It will be Los Ingobernables de Japon vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon at NJPW Sakura Genesis.
Yota Tsuji will face his LIJ stablemate Tetsuya Nairo for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Sakura Genesis’ main event on Saturday, 6th April. The title match has been confirmed after Tsuji was crowned New Japan Cup 2024 winner on Wednesday.
Tsuji defeated Hirooki in the finals. Tsuji declared that he was the face of NJPW’s new era in his post-victory promo and promised to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Title.
Naito was the Japanese commentator for the New Japan Cup Finals. He got into the ring to have a staredown after the match with Tsuji.
Tsuji won the New Japan Cup after defeating Goto, EVIL Ren Narita El Phantasmo and Jeff Cobb.
Tsuji will be defending his IWGP World Heavyweight Title for the second time. He lost to the then-champion SANADA in Dominion 2023.
Sakura Genesis will be held at Sumo Hall, Tokyo, on April 6.
Naito will face Jon Moxley, less than a week following Sakura Genesis in a special match at NJPW Windy City Riot on Friday, April 12 in Chicago. Naito wants the match to be a title bout if he is still IWGP World Heavyweight champion.
