Nigel McGuinness, AEW’s broadcaster, made a surprise return to the ring at Sunday’s All In From Wembley Stadium in the Casino gauntlet.
McGuinness entered third, to a raucous ovation. He stood toe-to toe with the current AEW continental champion Kazuchika Okada, before the two exchanged offensive.
The 48-year old had not been in the ring for over a year and had retired from the sport due to medical reasons. McGuinness had been training for a return to the ring and was rumored to be paired with Bryan Danielson in AEW’s return at Wembley.
McGuinness, former ROH World and Pure Champion got to do battle with fellow Englishman Zack Sabre Jr. The fans responded with a standing applause.
McGuinness appeared to be winning after hitting a Tower of London assisted on Kyle O’Reilly, but the pin was broken. He then hit O’Reilly with a Teeter Toter and was about to pin him when a Christian Cage’s spear took him out.
McGuinness, who was released by WWE in October 2022 after six years of service, made a surprise return to Ring of Honor for the April 2023 Supercard of Honor. He joined the commentary team, and later moved to the broadcast desks of AEW.

Other surprises included former WWE star Ricochet and NJPW G1 winner Zack Sabre Jr. as well as reigning AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Ohada and Jeff Jarrett. Patriarchy teammates Luchasaurus and Christian Cage were also announced.
Luchasaurus/Killswitch teased a split with Cage based on the aforementioned title loss, but instead choke slammed O’Reilly and pulled Cage’s body on top of him for the win which gives Cage a future AEW World title shot.
