Nigel McGuinness hopes to play at least one match after returning to the ring for AEW All In.
McGuinness returned to the sport after a 13-year hiatus. He competed at Wembley Stadium. He was a surprising entrant to the Casino gauntlet that took place at All In. McGuinness told Uproxx that he is fully content if he doesn’t wrestle again, but he would like to at least have one more match.
He named Bryan Danielson as his top opponent but also mentioned that he had other options.
“Bryan is definitely the top of the line because of our past, there are so many emotions tied to a match with Bryan. Zack Sabre Jr. is a dream match. McGuinness added. “There are many great talents. Lee Moriarty was gracious enough to get into the ring with my before the shows at Collision and that has helped me greatly.”
McGuinness’ return to the ring was paved when “a little discussion” took place about him facing Danielson in All In 2023. However, Danielson was injured and did not compete.
McGuinness told Uproxx he will remember the reaction of the London crowd to his home town for the rest his life.
It gave me a sense of closure, but I would not call it that because that sounds like the end for me. McGuinness said that the fact that this could happen has brought him peace and a sense surreal reality. “I have had many blessings and obstacles in my life. It meant a lot to me to be so lucky to have this opportunity, thanks to Tony Khan.
Uproxx writes McGuinness “continued to train as if he was wrestling tomorrow.” McGuinness felt that he didn’t need to “look like a bodybuilder” but rather “look like an athletic.”
McGuinness was a star for ROH Wrestling and TNA Wrestling in his in-ring career. He has done commentary for WWE and is currently signed with AEW as a member of the announcer team for Collision.
