Nic Nemeth takes on NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahaashi in a Global title bout in todays Wrestling news
The new Global Champion has named his first challenger.
Nic Nemeth challenged NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi to a IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship match.
Nemeth challenged Tanahashi, who had won a tag-team contest at The New Beginning on Saturday in Sapporo. Tanahashi was to be Nemeth’s first challenger for his Global title. Tanahashi, who was commentating at the ringside, replied “I agree with your” in English to Nemeth.
No date has yet been set for this bout.
Tanahashi was scheduled to wrestle in Saturday’s event, as part of Kazuchika Okada’s team for Okada’s farewell 10-man-tag. However, he was pulled from the show shortly before bell time due to a right ankle problem.
Tanahashi’s injury is still not known to be severe, but the agreement to play the Nemeth match indicates that he will not miss much time.
Nemeth won the Global title at his NJPW debut in the main bout of the Friday show The New Beginning. Tanahashi lost the NJPW World TV Title to Matt Riddle on the same show.
On Saturday’s show YOH stole SHO’s IWGP Junior Heavyweight belt as a way to set up a future title bout between the two former tag partners.
On Saturday, the event also featured Okada’s and Tama Tonga’s final matches for promotion.
