The Royal Rumble was a perfect place for a four-way Undisputed Undisputed title match.

Roman Reigns was supposed be facing a new challenger on SmackDown New Year’s Revolution. It was either Randy Orton or LA Knight.

This didn’t happen. The three men, Orton, Knight and Styles, will instead challenge Reigns in a fatal four way match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble.

Last night’s SmackDown was headlined by a number one contenders match between Orton and Knight. The match ended with a no contest, after Reigns and The Bloodline interrupted it. They laid out the three potential challengers while Reigns stood strong to end the show.

But Reigns’ plan backfired. Nick Aldis, SmackDown’s general manager, informed Paul Heyman of the decision. Reigns will now have to defend himself against Orton, Knight and Styles in the Royal Rumble. Heyman informed Reigns of the decision in a post SmackDown video. Heyman was ordered by Reigns to fix the problem.

In recent weeks, Reigns has been in a power battle with Aldis. Reigns was not happy that Aldis had made the match for the number one contender last night without first telling him.

Last night, it was confirmed that Kevin Owens would challenge Logan Paul for United States title in the Royal Rumble. Owens defeated Santos Escobar at the finals of WWE’s US title number 1 contender’s tournament.

Plus, The Authors of Pain & Paul Ellering made their WWE main roster debuts, Tyler Bate debuted on the main roster, and IYO SKY defended her WWE Women’s Championships against Michin.
