The new WWE Tag Team Champions are DIY’s Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa.
DIY defeated A-Town Down Under’s Grayson Waller and Austin Theory in the televised main match of WWE SmackDown on Friday in Toronto, winning the Tag Team title in the show’s televised event.
The Gargano and Ciampa duo’s first title win on WWE’s main lineup.
WWE’s chief content officers Paul “Triple H’ Levesque” noted in a post on social media that DIY’s Tag Title victory took place in the same building as the duo won NXT Tag Team Gold against The Revival at NXT TakeOver Toronto in 2016.
Ciampa held the NXT Championship twice. Gargano was a three-time NXT North American champion and held the NXT Championship once.
Waller & Theory held the Tag Team titles since WrestleMania forty, when they won the gold in a ladder-match where both sets Tag titles that made up the Undisputed Tag Team Championship was on the line.
A-Town Down Under took home the SmackDown Tag Titles in this bout, while R-Truth & The Miz won the Raw Tag Titles. The belts later became the WWE Tag Team Titles and the World Tag Team Titles.
