Mustafa Ali wins X-Division Title at TNA No Surrender in todays Wrestling news
It’s Ali’s first major title in a major promotional campaign.
Mustafa Ali leaves the company as a champion, having won the X-Division Title at TNA No Surrender New Orleans.
Ali defeated Chris Sabin as the night’s main match — the first X-Division special to be main-evented since 2005’s Unbreakable.
Ali won the match by hitting a sunset splash and a 450 splash after avoiding an avalanche Cradle Shock.
Ali has won his first major singles title, while Sabin’s 10-year run ends with this loss. Sabin began the championship at the Impact 1000 last September and had three successful title defences.
Ali will remain with TNA until at least late-March, as part of a five-date schedule that includes the March Sacrifice stream special and a number of TV tapings.
Kevin Knight will be his opponent at the Saturday TV tapings in New Orleans.
Ali, 37, has been very busy since his non-compete period ended after his WWE release. He has competed both domestically and internationally, appearing for GCW and other companies such as Defy, RevPro and PROGRESS. In April, he will make his NJPW debut in a match with Hiroshi Tahashi.
Ali’s victory was one of two that night, as MK Ultra regained Knockouts Tag Teams titles from Decay and all the other champions who defended retained.
