Mone and Tony Khan have been chatting for a while.
Mercedes Mone, who starred in Big Business, knew “for a while” she would be debuting on AEW.
Mone made AEW’s debut on Dynamite’s Big Business edition last month. The show was centered around Mone’s arrival and held in Boston, her hometown.
AEW will return to Massachusetts this Wednesday when Dynamite is held at the DCU Center, Worcester. Mone was invited to be a guest of 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Stick to Wrestling Podcast to promote the event. James Stewart, the host of the podcast, asked Mone when she knew about her AEW debut.
I knew it for a long time. It’s all about the big business. I am big, baby. I am the CEO at AEW. Tony [Khan] and I have been planning for a long time, and we are just about to launch so many other incredible things.
Mone had been speaking with Tony Khan “quite a while” before she decided to sign with AEW. She felt that now was the time for her join the company.
Mone’s response when asked about the very first time Khan reached her:
It was incredible. I’ve been talking to you for a while now, and I think that the alignment in 2024 just feels so right. There are so many wonderful things in the works. When he first called me, I said, “I’ll think about that TK.” We need to build this relationship. You know, I’ll keep watching. Let me continue to watch this women’s section. I watched the women’s section and my dreams grew bigger and brighter. I knew immediately that AEW was my home.
Mone has appeared on camera at AEW events before, but Big Business was not her first. She was pictured in the crowd at All In, held last August, at Wembley Stadium.
Mone was still out with an ankle injury at All In when she appeared among the crowd. She is now cleared to compete. Mone’s AEW debut will be her first in-ring match since May 2023.
