In the semi-main event, Alex Kane defended his MLW Heavyweight championship against Richard Holliday.
Kings of Colosseum was presented by MLW on Saturday at 2300 Arena, Philadelphia.
The show featured Alex Kane defending his MLW Heavyweight championship against Richard Holliday, and Matt Riddle vs. Jacob Fatu.
MLW Kings of Colosseum Notes
Hyper Misao, formerly of TJPW, made her MLW debut on the show. She was defeated by Featherweight champion Janai Kai, after being distracted by Salina De La Renta outside.
Josh Bishop and Tom Lawlor failed to win the MLW Tag Team Championships against Second Gear Crew’s Matthew Justice & 1 Called Manders. They were defeated when Justice hit Bishop with a death valley drive onto a stack of tables, even though the tables didn’t break.
Bishop and Lawlor donned gear inspired by Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz and others. After the match, they attacked their opponents and left them lying before heading to the rear.
Sami Callihan has been revealed as the new member of The Calling. He helped Rickey Page defeat AKIRA during a bloody Taipei Death Match to retain the MLW National Openweight Championship.
Love, Doug won a blindfold match in “Love is Blind”, against Brett Ryan Gosselin. The angle is that Doug was obsessed with B3CCA and then Gosselin revealed he was her boyfriend. Someone gave Doug flowers at the ringside after he won because he now has his own admirers.
A video announcing that the legendary Mistico would make his MLW debut on February 3, at Superfight, aired.
Alex Kane retained his MLW World Title for the seventh consecutive time in the semi-main event of the evening. He defeated Richard Holliday with a rear naked choke and referee stoppage.
After the match they announced that Kane had set a record of most choke-out wins as MLW champion. Satoshi Kojima, the first MLW World Champion to ever win a match in the ring, will be his next opponent. The Bread Club leader was then presented with celebratory bagels which he threw into the crowd.
Callihan then walked out to face Kojima. He also spit in the face of the ring announcers before getting into a fight with Kojima. Later, a match between the two was announced for MLW Reload January 20. The show will be broadcast on YouTube and BeIN Sports.
Salina de la Renta and Rocky Romero discussed Mistico coming to MLW in a backstage segment. Salina was not pleased that MLW brought him in. She announced that Averno would wrestle Mistico in Superfight.
Commentators in the main event referred to Riddle’s matches against the Bloodline, a reference to his WWE matches. Riddle and Fatu were in a rear naked choke, but Riddle then switched to a sort of crossface and Fatu was tapped out.
After the match, Fatu hugged Riddle and showed respect to each other.
Matt Striker’s comment during the main event caused controversy. Striker said to Riddle on the broadcast: “Let’s discuss the elephant in the living room.” The court of public opinions would love to see Jacob Fatu take the taste out Matt Riddle’s lips. Sorry, but the court of public opinions does not convict. “I know that it is the world we live in, but it’s not true.”
