Former UFC fighters Matt Riddle, and Tom Lawlor are set to battle it out in a pro-wrestling match this weekend.
MLW announced that Riddle vs. Lawlor would take place at the TV taping portion Fightland, the promotion’s event in Atlanta on Saturday (September 14). It’s a “Vale Tudo rules”, which MLW promotes as a martial arts-inspired, no holds barred street fight.
“Before MMA became an organized sport, Brazilian street fighters would fight in Brazil’s underground fight world, with no rules and no holds barred. They called it Vale Tudo Rules. Vale Tudo is a dangerous, controversial and arguably barbaric combat sport. It tests the limits of human endurance and skill as well as sheer will to live,” MLW wrote.
“Now MLW is bringing Vale Tudo Center Stage in Atlanta where two of the most dangerous competitors in the sport will collide in a bout that harkens to the true, gritty origins of MMA. Matt Riddle will face Tom Lawlor in a match that promises to be the most unpredictable in MLW’s history.
The match’s air date has not yet been announced. It’s Riddle and Lawlor’s first one-on-1 matchup since 2017.
Fightland will include both a live special and TV tapings. The live special is airing for free on MLW’s YouTube channel.
