Minoru Suzuki, the Japanese wrestling legend, has been diagnosed with concussion following an accident in the ring that ended his match on Saturday.
Suzuki wrestled at Tenryu Project’s Osaka Crush Night on the 6th of July. The promotion released a statement stating that the match had been stopped at the referee’s discretion following an accident with Suzuki. He was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with concussion. Suzuki was allowed to leave hospital, and Tenryu Project will monitor his condition in the coming days.
Suzuki was able to walk, talk and move around normally. He has not displayed any significant symptoms, and there was no bleeding in his head or anywhere else.
Suzuki, 56, assured fans in a post on social media that they don’t need to worry. Suzuki recalls the entire match, including the moment he “fell” at the end. He said that a CT scan had been done and no problems were found.
Suzuki, Kengo & YASSHI defended their Tenryu Six-Man Tag Teams titles against Tomohiro Hino, Yuji hino & Don Fujii. The match was a two out of three falls match which ended in a draw at 1-1 when it was stopped. The champions were able to retain their titles. Tenryu Project has said that they will try to arrange a match.
Keigo Yoshino, the referee, tweeted that Suzuki did not respond to his calls before the third fall began and appeared to be unconscious. He recovered consciousness and wanted the match to continue. However, the decision was taken to stop it. Suzuki was able joke around behind the scenes but was taken to hospital for evaluation.
Tenryu Project apologized that the match had to be cancelled, but said that they hope fans will understand the importance of protecting the wrestlers. The promotion thanked all those who acted quickly in dealing with the situation.
