DiBiase said he was “really sorry” to learn of Virgil’s death.

Ted DiBiase, “Million Dollar Man”, was “really sorry” to learn of the death Virgil.

Virgil, real name Mike Jones, died at 61 after years of declining health. Virgil was diagnosed with dementia in 2022 and suffered multiple strokes.

Virgil is best known for his WWF pairing with DiBiase. Virgil, who was DiBiase’s bodyguard at first, turned babyface to win the Million Dollar Championship against DiBiase in SummerSlam of 1991.

DiBiase reflected in his Everybody’s Got A Pod Podcast on Virgil’s death and some of their difficulties.

Oh gosh. It was very sad to hear this. Mike Jones was Virgil’s real name or was Virgil’s real name. We met in the WWE offices when the whole thing with the Million Dollar Man began. Mike was in great shape back then. He was the bodyguard. I would speak and if someone wanted to say anything, I would say, “Virgil, takeover.” [laughs]

We had a one-off match. Mike was a nice guy. Like I said, it takes a lot to keep your body that fit. He was very good at it. He was obviously much better than me at keeping his body in top shape. But I wish he had been more wrestling-savvy. I don’t really know how else to put it, but if he had been able to wrestle, we could have enjoyed a good run. It was pretty quick. Good ol’ Virgil. He didn’t have charisma, you know. It was probably over even before it started.

We remained friends. I would occasionally see him at Comic-Cons. I told him that I would sit with him if he got booked at any Comic-Cons. Looking back, I can see that he would never have said that to me. He didn’t want anyone to know that he struggled. Later, I found out. I can’t recall the name of the man who was his caretaker. But he made sure that he got a little better care. I don’t know. It’s amazing to me, because I don’t know where he lived or how he lived. But I know it wasn’t good. It’s a sad tale.

Marcus DeAngelo, DiBiase co-host, said: “I hope that Virgil is at peace regardless of anything else.” “I know you and him didn’t always agree, but were always friends.” “I’m glad he’s left a legacy in professional wrestling that will never be forgotten.”

“Yeah me too,” DiBiase continued.

Virgil & DiBiase worked together in WCW while they were both nWo members. Virgil’s career as a comic character was revived later in life. He made multiple cameos for AEW.
