Michael Chandler on WWE Raw Promo: ‘I got thrown in the fire’ in todays Wrestling news
Chandler spoke about his WWE Raw experience in a conversation with Ariel Helwani.
Michael Chandler’s WWE Raw appearance was a decision made at the last minute.
Chandler spoke to Ariel Helwani of The MMA Hour, about his experience from Monday’s episode where he called Conor McGregor out. Chandler said that the promo was approved just a few moments before the segment aired.
He recalled: “Two minute before, they told me, ‘Hey they’re going put the camera on you. I said, Why don’t you just give me the microphone?’.” “And they said: ‘Hold it, let me run the flagpole real quickly.’ Then about a second later, they said: ‘Hey you’re coming on in a moment and you’re getting the microphone if want the microphone.’ And then magic happened…less that five minutes notice. Nothing was prepared. Nothing. I was thrown in the fire. “I smacked myself a few times and then we went.”
Chandler said that he met Triple H after the segment and that WWE “liked” what they saw. He also opened up the possibility of more future crossovers.
“We’ll see,” he replied. “There’s no doubt that there is a crossover.” There’s a lot of respect for the wrestlers and the brass. They have a lot of respect for UFC. It was cool to be there and watch other athletes, entertainers, and performers. They were all huge fans of mixed-martial arts, as I am. It was a great experience. There’s a lot going on there, and the sky is the limit for TKO Group, and what we can achieve in the crossover. And yeah, man, this is probably just the beginning.”
Dana White said recently that he hoped Conor McGregor would be fighting by the year 2024. He hasn’t competed since a July 20, 2021 loss to Dustin Pourier after breaking his fibula.
