Nightingale defeated Julia Hart to win the title in Sunday’s AEW dynasty.
The rematch that has been in the works for nearly a full year is now official as the new TBS champion Willow Nightingale defends against Mercedes Mone.
The match for Sunday, May 26, was officially announced after the results of the Dynasty pay-per view on Sunday in which Nightingale defeated Julia Hart to win the title in less than six minutes.
Mone and Mone had a face-toface confrontation after the win. This was the latest encounter since Mone’s debut in March.
Both women faced off in the finals at the NJPW Strong Resurrection tournament of the NJPW Strong Women’s Title Tournament, which will take place on May 20, 2023. Mone’s ankle was badly injured during the match and changed the outcome of the match. Nightingale was the winner of the 13-minute match, and held the title 45 days before losing to Giulia.
Mone will be making her first appearance in the ring since that night. Mone, as part of the tension building, has been cold towards Nightingale ever since her debut and blamed her for the injury that she suffered.
Nightingale is the first woman to win a title in AEW. Hart’s 155 day run, which included seven successful title defences, ended with Nightingale.
