McKenzie Mitchell is looking forward to a new beginning after her WWE release.
Mitchell, who was a member of NXT’s broadcast team, had her WWE contract terminated on December 1. She has been with the company since 2019 as a backstage interviewer and on-air personality.
Mitchell spoke about her release on Insight With Chris Van Vliet. Mitchell expressed her excitement for the future. Mitchell said that the support she received after her release made her feel emotional.
I’m good. Once the dust settles, I think it’s been a blessing. I believe that there are many new beginnings and I am excited to see what the future holds. The outreach and support I’ve received from friends, family members, coworkers, peers, production, staff executive in WWE, and most importantly the fans, has been incredible. It was hearing from everyone about how much I had influenced their opinion of WWE and NXT that made me emotional. It was emotional to hear from everyone about their favorite moments of my career, the interviews they liked, and the magic created on screen.
Mitchell responded that she has been putting all her creative energy into her Headline by MM line of jewelry. Mitchell said that she still watches WWE, NXT, and is supportive of her friends who work in the company. She wishes her husband Vic Joseph luck before each NXT broadcast. Joseph is the NXT play-by-play announcer.
I think, like I said, this is a good way to say that everything has a new start and I’m just like, “Okay, what comes next?” I know, as I said, I’ve got my jewelry business. So I’ve been putting my all my effort into that, my creativity there. This is almost my full-time. My husband is still employed by the company. It’s interesting that he is still there and I am not. I don’t think people realize that we were the first announcer couple. It’s true, the announcer and announcer are married. We figured it all out, but I still support WWE and NXT. I still watch him. I still send him good luck messages before every show. All my friends are still in the WWE. So I’m still supportive regardless.
Shawn Michaels admitted that he was surprised by the news during a conference call with media after Mitchell’s release. Michaels said Mitchell had a good reputation in NXT, and he hoped they could work together in the future.
Van Vliet asked Mitchell if he would consider returning to WWE in the future.
Never say never. I know people say it and it sounds cliche but it’s actually true. Like I never got to say goodbye to WWE. I didn’t have the option to leave. I said, “I think some people need a break. I didn’t have the opportunity to say, like, I’m prepared to take a rest.” I was ready to continue going and go to WrestleMania, do the Royal Rumbles, and all of that. It was amazing to hear Shawn say these things. Never say never.
Mitchell said that she wanted to have a WrestleMania experience in WWE, but never did. She never got to do a WrestleMania Interview, host a pre-show for the main roster, or go on tour with Raw or SmackDown.
Mitchell worked as a TNA/Impact Wrestling broadcaster before joining WWE. She told Chris Van Vliet she had never seen pro wrestling before working at Impact.
