Matt Riddle on why he hasn't wrestled for TNA yet and awkward Tony Khan interaction in todays Wrestling news

Matt Riddle revealed in an interview with The Takedown why he hasn’t appeared in TNA Wrestling.

Riddle has also competed in Mexico for MLW and on the independent circuit. He was released from WWE in September of 2023. He told The Takedown TNA was interested in booking Riddle, but Riddle already had bookings for the dates TNA wanted. Riddle believes he will probably compete for TNA at some point in the future. However, he does not know how TNA’s relationship with WWE might affect this.

“I started getting bookings when I was released. I don’t mind if you are a hole in a wall in the middle nowhere if you pay my rate. You pay my rate and you talk to (me) like a real person, then I will accept your booking. I’m easy to work with no matter what anyone says. When it came to TNA I spoke to (Tommy). Dreamer at some point. He sent me an abundance of dates to do. I’ve taken so many dates and they usually do tapings on weekends. I was booked every weekend, either for one or both days. TNA isn’t happening yet, but it will probably happen eventually,” Riddle said.

“I remember saying, ‘Hey I’m busy these days.’ I haven’t received any response. I think they’re interested in me, but it is more a scheduling issue. Also, right now, given the current relationship between WWE TNA, I’m not sure if they are interested in me. They’re already doing cross-promotion. Cody will probably do something with TNA. Joe Hendry, the Rascalz, is now in NXT. Finally, people are starting to believe in him. They [have] a lot of things going on.”

This month marks the one-year anniversary of Riddle’s release from WWE. He was released at a time that WWE was cutting its roster after Endeavor acquired WWE. His release came just a few days after an incident in which he appeared drunk at JFK Airport, New York City.

Riddle stated that he didn’t want to work for another promotion after WWE.

“I think AEW’s a fantastic product,” he stated. “I know many of the people who work there. I like the company. I like how they work. I like the people who work there. I’ve noticed that I was relieved when I got fired from WWE. I felt that I was on television, and because I can be a provocative person at times, I felt like everything was magnified because I was there. Working on TV for two to three days per week was stressful. I like pressure. I like stress, but not a lot.

“The best solution would be to move to AEW and get more money. You’d also have a better schedule. I didn’t wish to work on television again. I didn’t like the attention for a little while. I wanted to step back. “I just wanted to do independents.”

Riddle reveals an awkward encounter he had backstage with Tony Khan at NJPW Windy City Riot in early 2018.

Riddle said, “I spoke to Tony.” “I don’t think he likes you,” Riddle said. He seemed happy. I wrestled Zack Sabre Jr. at Chicago. He seemed to be cool about it. I don’t understand. I’m a sarcastic person when you meet me. When I met him I said, “Oh, you like this match?”

“But I said that in a different manner, and he looked back at me all confused. I said, “Nevermind, dude. I just walked off.” So that was my experience.

Riddle holds the Cruiserweight Championship in Lucha Libre AAA. After winning the Battle Riot match in MLW he is eligible for a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. Satoshi Kojima, the current MLW world champion, is in line for a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship after winning their Battle Riot match.
