Mark Henry confirms AEW’s departure: ‘I will not be renewing my contract’ in todays Wrestling news
Mark Henry will leave AEW this week when his contract for the promotion expires.
Henry discussed his contract status with AEW on Monday’s Busted Open Radio. Henry said that his contract expires on May 28 and he will not be renewing it. Henry said it was a “mutual agreement” and that he is ending his time at AEW with a positive note. He had a wonderful experience at AEW, but now feels it’s time to move on to other projects.
“My contract with AEW expires tomorrow, the 28th. Today, of course is the 27th. I wanted to speak about this. Tony Khan told the press at the conference that he is very proud and happy about what we have done together. Henry said, “I feel the same way.” “I am grateful for everything that happened with Tony Khan and his family at AEW. I had a wonderful experience and I feel that it’s now time for me to spend more time on TheMarkHenry.com, the Remarkable Brand and to focus my attention on what I want to do next. I will not be renewing my contract. I think it’s mutual. If I cannot give 100 percent, it is only fair that both parties end the relationship positively. “It’s been nothing other than positive,” I said.
Henry signed a contract with AEW for 2021. He will be working as a broadcaster and coach. He was also a member of AEW’s community outreach team, but shifted his focus from being a “psychology coach” to helping talent. He’s leaving AEW but is still willing to assist wrestlers who reach out to him.
Henry said, “I did my best to help everyone I could.” “I didn’t finish all the things I wanted to do, but I can help them at any time.”
Henry clarified he was not leaving professional wrestling.
“I’m not leaving professional wrestling,” he said. “What I am saying is that I will take some time off to work on a few projects and then I will come back with full force. Because that’s what i do.”
Henry was a WWE backstage worker before joining AEW. He is a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and was inducted into WWE Hall of Fame in 2018 In 2018, he also played his last match in the ring.
