On Sunday, Mariah was crowned AEW Women’s World champion in her hometown of London.
May dethroned Toni Storm, her former mentor, at AEW all In to win the title. Storm refused to hit her with a shoe at the end of their match. May took advantage of Storm’s mercy, delivering two knee strikes and a Storm Zero in order to win.
The Storm-May story is inspired by classic films such as “All About Eve” or “Sunset Boulevard”. After being brought in to AEW as Storm’s understudy last month, May betrayed Storm after winning the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament. The tournament won by May earned her a shot at All In.
May, 26, is the first woman to win a championship in AEW. She made her debut for the promotion in November of 2023.
Storm vs. May featured a scene where May slapped herself in front of her mother. May’s mother was sitting in front row, and the commentary team stated that this was the second time May had seen her wrestle live. May slapped May’s mom in the face when her mother seemed to disapprove of May defeating Luther.
Storm has been the AEW Women’s World Champion for the past year. This was her third reign as champion.
